I think it was five years ago that my friend suckered me into taking her tiny guinea pigs off her hands. I begged my parents, "Please! They're free! Cage and everything! I'll take good care of them!" And I did take care of them for a good few years. I named one of them Ferguson and another Snickers because he looks like a snickers candy bar.
But now these things are miniature capybaras! They are huge, they eat like monsters, and they poop more than babies. If you have a guinea pig, you should clean their cage at least once a week, and I have two. So by this time, these things really load up their cage and it smells very disgusting. At my house, our animals (two dogs and two guinea pigs) are very well taken care of, don't get me wrong. I used to give my guinea pigs little baths and clip their nails, but now its a routine of feed, poop, water, poop and clean. It gets old after 5 years. Maybe they'll never die. They're really old, much older than any other pig I know.
So the moral of the story is that if you think you want a guinea pig, or your kid begs you for one, think long and hard about it. I suggest a hamster first, or maybe a little gecko. If you sincerely, truly, absolutely love guinea pigs, then by all means, get one. But I for one will NEVER make the mistake of buying something that squeels, poops, and eats 24/7 ever again!

Intro to My Crazy Life and the Hope That Comes With It

I can't control where and when I was born, my parents, the state I live in, but I will choose who I will become. My past is painful, my future hopeful. I am a teenager in a country where pressures to do the wrong things are high, and pressures to do the right things are few and far between. America is now the country of complacency and laziness and there's nothing you can do to change it. Especially if you're a teenager. But that is a lie that people make up and it couldn't be further from the truth. The truth is that people, especially teenagers, can do anything they set their mind to. You may be thinking: yeah, yeah. What a cliche. But i firmly believe that if you believe something will happen with all your heart, things can change.
But right now, I'm just your average teenager with an average life. An average house with average guinea pigs. Boring in a nut shell. But I'm determined to be that one teenager who defies the average life and starts the revolution to a better America. What about you? Would you be willing to defy the ordinary?
